Ebb and Flow

This audio piece was created using data sonification, a computational method whereby data points are transformed into music pitches and timbres. Using water quality data collected by the Environmental Monitoring Program from across the Bay-Delta, I aimed to capture the rhythmic periodicity and dynamism of our estuary. Individual pitches were generated from salinity measurements taken from 2016–2023, highlighting dramatic swings driven by drought and atmospheric rivers.
